ICOP installed 561 Geopier Impact® Piers to support a five-story apartment building and parking deck. Our team used the vibratory rig with a hollow-stem mandrel to reach the desired depth, then retracted it in lifts to create aggregate piers.
Access issues prevented thorough geotechnical investigation. After the existing structure was demolished, it was revealed that the site consisted of chunky, cobbly soil and rock situated above approximately 30 feet of undocumented fill — not bedrock, as project leaders had believed.
ICOP was on site from the time of this discovery, and provided a turnkey solution for the general contractor. To overcome the site conditions and reach the required depth, ICOP brought in an obstruction driller. This allowed us to predrill holes for the installation of rammed aggregate piers.
