Proven Retention Technologies

One point of contact engineers, coordinates, and executes it all — from plan to project completion.

As a design-build contractor, ICOP applies extensive field experience to bridge the gap between design intent and practical execution. We look at the drawings, identify opportunities, and recommend the optimal solution. Then we build it, cooperating with other trades and navigating tight sites every step of the way.

Understanding Our Systems

Structures and Earth Retention Explained

When we say “structures and retention,” we’re talking about any rigid walls designed to hold back soil or water that wouldn’t naturally stay in place. Often, our clients need to manage steep terrain, create flat surfaces on slopes, excavate in urban areas, or keep water out of deep or coastal digs. That’s when they call us.

ICOP designs and installs earth and water retention systems for a variety of use cases. Our structures provide temporary access during construction — especially in congested settings — or permanent support, depending on your needs.

Service Highlights

What Sets Us Apart

We pride ourselves on clear communication, high-quality workmanship, and unmatched technical expertise. As a longtime East Coast contractor, we’re familiar with local codes, permitting, and soils. That knowledge empowers us to provide our clients with customized structures and retention solutions.

Sheet Piling

ICOP installs interlocking steel sheets for temporary excavation support or permanent soil and water retention.

Workers operate heavy machinery and install concrete pillars near forest.

Soundwalls

Soundwalls absorb or reflect nuisance noise from vehicles, trains, commercial structures, industrial operations, and more.

Secant/Tangent Pile Walls

Overlapping or adjacent reinforced piles block water, stabilize slopes, and support excavations.

Workers reinforce wooden wall near roadwork, machinery, and barriers.

Soldier Pile & Lagging

From bracket piles to post and panel walls, these systems combine vertical supports with load-bearing horizontal elements.

Applications

When To Consider Structures & Earth Retention

  • Protecting Adjacent Structures

In urban settings with neighboring utilities, roadways, and foundations, there isn’t room to safely slope or bench an excavation. Retention structures hold the earth in place, preventing damage to nearby areas.

  • Steep Grade Stabilization

Earth retention structures stabilize steep slopes to create functional spaces out of previously unusable land, reduce the risk of landslides, and slow the flow of water contributing to hillside erosion.

  • Waterfront or Soil Erosion Control

Protect vulnerable areas with temporary or permanent retention structures. Hold soil in place, slow moving water, and stop excessive soil loss.

  • Temporary Excavation Support

Temporary structures hold back the earth during deep excavation, protecting workers from cave-ins, reducing groundwater seepage, and preventing the movement of adjacent buildings and utilities.

  • Permanent Retaining Walls

Retaining walls redistribute and counteract the lateral pressure of existing soil. These long-term support structures increase usable square footage and improve the aesthetic appeal of initially undesirable land.

  • Dewatering Support

Systems like sheet piling create a watertight seal around a construction site, allowing water to be pumped out and stopping it from flowing back in. The result is a safe, dry work area primed for faster construction.
